Rapid mold, also called a soft mold, is a tool in a shorter time relatively for making die-casting articles/Prototype with a certain size, shape and surface precision requirement. It is mainly used in the production of small quantities, and production cost of rapid molds is relatively lower, so the cost of each part can be reduced a lot.
The reason people make rapid mold is mainly due to the ability to test and verify parts during the prototype development phase of new product development. Although there are many ways to achieve faster and cheaper prototype, the advantages of fast molds are mainly in materials and processes.
Rapid mold can use actual production grade of material, giving customer a clear understanding of whether these parts can meet the standards with the actual production process, so that you can determine whether you have chosed the right material. The parts are also die-casted so can also be used for verificastion tests, such as shock and stress tests. And any changes for the part design can be made easily.
People also use rapid molds to test the parameters of the production, which ensures that the correct parts are obtained and operated as needed. In this way, the designer can capture many process defects at the development phase , thus to re-design the parts or take other measurements to avoid these problems when mass production.
A rapid mold is essentially a type of die-casting mold that can quickly and inexpensively acquire a large number of parts. It is a fast and economical way to enable the components to be validated and tested before the mass production.
